International Compassionate Living Festival
In 2004, the Animals and Society Institute partnered with the Tom Regan and the Culture and Animals Foundation to produce the annual International Compassionate Living Festival, which CAF first created in 1985. This unique conference brought together authors, scholars, activists, artists and others who bring thoughtful, expert perspectives to the animal rights movement.
The event was held each October, to coincide with the annual commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. The theme and focus of each conference was different, providing attendees with a fresh learning experience each time. The ASI is proud to have worked with Tom and Nancy Regan, the co-founders of CAF, to present this unique event, which complemented rather than duplicated other animal-related conferences. Its intellectual focus and more intimate atmosphere allowed for thoughtful discussion, networking, and in-depth discourse into timely and comprehensive topics that reflect activities around the world.
Audiovisual recordings of ICLF presentations from 2004-2008 are available from JOB Conference Recording Services.
2010
Due to current economic circumstances, the Animals and Society Institute and the Culture and Animals Foundation have agreed, with much regret, not to co-produce an International Compassionate Living Festival in 2010. We are deeply grateful to all of our members, sponsors, attendees and speakers for the support and camaraderie that has made this event so uniquely rewarding. Our organizations move forward with our respective programs in the spirit of our mutual dedication to animal rights.
2009
It is with deep regret that the Culture and Animals Foundation and the Animals and Society Institute announce that there will be no International Compassionate Living Festival in 2009. We do not have sufficient sponsorship this year to produce the type of event that we know many of you have loyally and enthusiastically supported. We remain hopeful for more favorable circumstances in 2010.
Although we will miss the opportunity to gather together in the spirit of humane progress, please know that both of our organizations remain fully committed to our primary animal protection programs and will devote our full energies to them in the coming year. We will keep you up to date on all future plans, and thank you for your kind support.
